When Richard Rybicki hung up his badge in 2006 after 29 years with the Chicago Police Department, he left behind a career filled with diverse experiences. From walking the beat as a Patrol Officer to leading investigations as a Detective Lieutenant, Rybicki’s assignments were as varied as they were challenging. His final role saw him commanding the Area Three Homicide/Sex/Gang Crimes unit—one of the toughest in the department.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Rybicki moved to Florida and began a new chapter, teaching Crime Scene Technology at a private university. There, he shared the hard-earned lessons of his years in law enforcement with the next generation of investigators.

After a second retirement, he embraced his first love—writing. In 2016, he introduced readers to Sam Laska in The Pain Game, a story about a fallen Chicago cop trying to find his way in Florida. Since then, Rybicki has continued Sam’s saga in Where the Road Leads, Bottom Feeder Blues, and The Green Line. His latest work, Dead Weight, is the first book in a new paranormal urban fantasy series.

THE PAIN GAME - "It is not very often I come across a first book in the detective genre that grabs me from the opening pages and entertains throughout. The development of Sam Laska is a story of it owns. Was ordering the second book in the series before I could finish. McGee, Bosch...……. Laska? Can't wait for more."
